My view from our balcony!

First thoughts on California!

Greetings from warmer climates!

My love is with all my Minnesota people in nasty weather, however, my body and mind are here in the sunshine! I have landed here and begun to make myself at home. I arrived here on Saturday night and was so excited to be greeted by a full moon on the ocean and croaking frogs in the marsh area by the airport! A lovely breeze was blowing and, after all day of being on a plane, fresh air was exactly what the doctor ordered! My bags got through security alright and, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief, I DID NOT have any knives hidden in my purse! My husband picked me up and we headed back to town. We stopped by the grocery store and holy cow! Things are expensive here! Groceries are ridiculous! How can the food be so expensive when they grow so much of it in this state! Same with the gas! I saw about 4 oil rigs on the ocean but gas is at least 40 cents more a gallon here! Come on California!

I am adjusting to life here on the coast quite well. Although, our kitchen is severely lacking the necessities. My husband views the necessities as keeping the freezer stocked with pizza and chicken nuggets. I love him but I have no idea how he survives on the food he eats without being 500 pounds! I have taken over the kitchen responsibilities and he did not complain! I am excited to get to completely plan the meals for us. I am looking forward to trying a ton of new recipes (please send some if you have any ideas for good recipes with few ingredients!)

Today I enjoyed my first official day as a housewife and I gotta say, it was awesome! I cleaned, did laundry, and watched A LOT of Parks and Rec! I failed slightly tonight when I tried to marinate chicken in the only condiment we had here, wostishire (sound it out! no one can really spell that!) sauce. It did not go well when the sauce hit the hot pan. I not only coated the pan with a thick black mass of burned sauce, but now the whole house smells like burned chicken! Oh well, it was worth a try! I know that eventuallyI will have real people responsibilities but for now, I am enjoying my free time without school or work to worry about and plenty of time to play with food!

We are trying to figure out when the Air Force will send movers to come take our stuff away. It is nice to be here but all of our belongings are still in boxes, ready to be shipped to Montana. Dealing with the movers is a ton easier this time but still frustrating and nerve-wracking. As of right now, it looks like they will be coming for our stuff a week before we leave so we will be spending a week with nothing but a blow up bed and a suitcase full of clothes! I can't wait to get an actual house! We will hopefully be getting our housing assignment tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that this goes smoother than the other applications we have filed in the past!

Well, my husband has to get up at about 4am tomorrow so it's off to bed for me! A special shout out to my Grandpa! Happy Birthday Grandpa Choo Choo! I'm sorry I can't be there to wish it to you in person but, as a special birthday present, my college diploma finally came today! I am officially graduated! Good night all!

2 Days till departure

Oh boy here we go! Only two days left in Minnesota!

I had a very productive past few days getting ready to head out! After packing up a ridiculous amount of clothes, I brought two large boxes to the UPS Store and realized that shipping clothes would be about as much as buying a new wardrobe! I am definitely done shipping things out to California.

Today, to finish my teaching license application, I went to get fingerprinted. That was an interesting experience and I was slightly disappointed to find out that they no longer use ink to get the fingerprints and the Wayzata Police Station looks noting like CSI or Law and Order. It was pretty exciting though and the officer said it was a lot easier to fingerprint someone who was not drunk and disorderly! Well, the application is officially mailed and I will hopefully be licensed soon!

I got to hang out with my sister and my little niece today and I will miss them both terribly! I never knew that watching a newborn would be like watching a slightly smaller and less mobile drunk! It's a lot cuter when an infant spits up too! She also smells super good! Except when she goes goat eyes and needs to be given to mommy for a change. I may love her lots but I have yet to change a diaper in my life and I don't plan on starting soon!

I finished out the night with a wonderful dinner with my cousin at Pizzeria Lola (scene on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives!). We had the Sweet Italian, the Korean BBQ and the Boise. After inhaling 4 pieces in about 5 minutes, I discovered my favorite was the Korean BBQ! Soooooo delicious! I also tried the extra spicy ginger ale. At first, I was pretty disappointed because it tasted like regular ginger ale. Then about 3 seconds later my throat started to get really warm! Holy crap it was like drinking ginger ale with a cayenne pepper chaser! Worth trying, but not something I would like to re-live. I capped the night with a trip to Dairy Queen to discover that they have the Candy Shoppe Blizzard back! BEST DAY EVER!!!! If you have not tired it yet, do it now! Instant diabetes but totally worth it!
Well now I'm just trying to stay sane while saying goodbye a million times! Here I come jug of wine!

Alright everyone! Here I am with my new blog!
I created this to help keep friends and family up to date with my adventures as I prepare to leave home and move around the country with my husband in the Air Force. I leave on Saturday to fly out to California, leaving behind -20 temperatures to a nice balmy 70! I am very excited but very nervous about leaving! For the past few days I have been slowly packing up my life and mailing it out to the husband! As I pack up, I slowly begin to realize I HAVE SO MUCH STUFF! AH! Wish me luck with further packing! Thank you for reading and I look forward to sharing my adventures with you!
