A quadruple birthday!

Well this weekend was a busy one! Saturday was Anthony's birthday and because April is a big month for birthdays out here, we decided to just have a big birthday party for all the boys! (Cory, Ryan and Jake) We decided to host the party at our house and for food I thought it would be easiest to just make a whole bunch of finger food. As usual, I WAY over estimated how much I needed and how much people would eat but I will never complain about leftovers (Anthony will!). I put together a spread of veggies and dip, watermelon, apples, chips and dip and hot dogs and brats. There was some debate at the party over whether or not cheddar-wursts are brats but I say they are! They are my favorite so I say yes!

I also made 4 cakes for the boys. I used a giant cupcake mold to make the actual form of the cake and I learned with the first cake that you need to Pam the crap out of the mold otherwise the cake WILL NOT come out, lesson learned! From left to right I made- Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting (box cake mix and can frosting) Chocolate cake with mint whip cream frosting (homemade cake with Cool Whip frosting and mint extract added) Vanilla cake with a chocolate buttercream (box cake mix and homemade frosting) and finally, chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream (both homemade). The best discovery I made from this was the cool whip frosting in the freezer section! Holy cow is this stuff delicious!!! I learned that I do not make good buttercream frosting so I will stick to the can! However, as usual, Grandma's chocolate cake was the best thing of the day! Thank you Grandma for the amazing cake recipe! I will post it next because honestly, it is amazing. My old roommate in college proposed to me when I made it for her birthday because she wanted me to make her the cake for every occasion! Trust me, its worth making from scratch.

As the night progressed, shots were taken and beverages consumed, leading to a very interesting game of Pictionary. I realized that I do not actually have the game but I found this: http://www.wordgenerator.net/pictionary-word-generator.php  It is a really cool site in a pinch and we just used a whiteboard so we didn't have to have a million pieces of paper floating around. Granted, the whiteboard was spiked a few times when the boys got over zealous, but it survived! All in all, it was a super fun night and I hope everyone had fun. It was not Ina Garten quality but I think it was a pretty good party!

As far as our life is concerned, I have learned a few new things about living on base! Last week as I wrote, I was deathly ill and am only now finally recovered. On Wednesday I tried my first venture off base in 4 days and I was still a little shaky. As I approached the gate to leave, my car was waved aside and I learned I was picked for a random inspection! Horay! So I had to find the insurance and registration in Anthony's car (thank God he is organized) and I had to stand outside while my car was opened completely and a dog sniffed around for a bit. I'm happy to report that I was cleared however, it was the last thing in the world that I felt like doing after 4 days of dying. On Sunday as Anthony and I were coming home, we discovered that the main gate to get on base was closed. For what reason, we still do not know but when this happens, there is nothing you can do but wait. There is no other way on base and we were in a line of cars so there was no leaving. We simply had to put the car in park for about 20 minutes until the gate was opened up. Anthony said that he has seen that happen before but it was new for me! Thank goodness I had an empty bladder! Just some of the many little quirks of living on base that I have discovered! Also, my aunt Mary came to visit a few weeks ago and we discovered that anyone who stays with us on base has to go through a background check and be issued a visitors pass and oh yeah, offer up your first born child! (ok maybe an exaggeration but it was a beast to be able to get her on base!) So note to anyone who may come to visit us, make sure you don't have any outstanding warrants and all your paperwork is up to date!

I am officially mailing my Montana license application tomorrow and I cannot wait! Once that gets received by the Montana Office of Public Instruction, then I can apply for jobs! One step closer to using that expensive degree! I am hopeful but I worry that nothing will be open for next year. I may need to rethink my profession here because so far Montana has not been kind to me on the job market! Oh well, we will have to see what the future brings!

Anthony is doing well but his schedule is very hectic. He goes on his first alert on Friday and I am not excited about that. It is going to be weird to be here without him and I know that he is nervous about beginning his job. Lots of changes up ahead for us so we will see what the future bring! Well, Anthony is giving me the look that means "can I have a neck rub?" so that is all for me tonight! Goodnight friends and family!!

The Flu

Well, my streak has been broken. 6 wonderful years of staying relatively healthy today has been dashed. Today I officially woke up with the stomach flu and have been praying for death ever since. Anthony was on alert this morning until noon so I spent the better part of my morning on the bathroom floor, running to grab water in between things shooting from my body. Anthony also has a cold so we are quite an interesting pair. He is doing his best to help and checks in on me, but unfortunately he cannot do a whole lot. I do apologize if my next post is not for a few days but I will post again if I am not dead by morning! Wish me luck!

Wall stick ons that my aunt helped me put up! The key is to use a level and have two pairs of eyes! Measure, measure, measure! I was so scared to do this but I think it turned out really well! Whew. I just needed someone else here to give me the push!

A beautiful day

I think it's a beautiful day to read outside. 65 and sunny, I think I can handle being jobless for these temps!
